New Calendar
Although I am not for setting new year resolutions, I love browsing through new wall calendar possibilities, as if buying the right one will set some sort of a tone for my year. Wall calendars are more of a wall decoration really, so much of my life and my family's schedule is really on my google calendar, synced with my husband's devices, and my devices.
At the end of last year, I attended a gallery showing for "The Style of Movement: Fashion & Dance" by Ken Browar & Deborah Ory. It was a wonderful experience, to marvel at photography of dancers in amazing fashion, in a beautiful airy, white space, I wished I could have owned a piece of the exhibit and have the space to display such works. The artists had just published their second beautiful coffee table book: The Style of Movement, but I knew I wasn't quite ready to splurge on a book I didn't realistically have the mental space and the time to enjoy, so I went to put it on a wishlist on my Amazon account. But what did I find there, in the related items but a 2020 Calendar of their earlier works!
So that's how I found my wall calendar for 2020.
My long time friend was kind enough to gift it to me for Christmas without my knowledge, but as it was being shipped to me, I wondered if having images like this would trigger body images for my 7 year old daughter, who's one of few extracurricular activities is dance... Aren't my children too young to appreciate the body and art form of dance as art at their ages without emulating them? I also wondered, do I want my husband to see images of ballerinas and ballerinos daily in our dining area?
I felt a little torn about these thoughts but then the calendar arrived, and shortly after, my yoga teacher announced she will be moving across the country, and I decided, this calendar is really better suited for her. She is the one who informed me of the exhibit, and she is a former ballet dancer. The calendar would be small enough for her to pack and take with her, but see beautiful imagery each month.
I digress... all this to say, that now we have a child friendly Peanuts calendar hanging on our dining room. A new year is really just a new calendar though, it doesn't make me more susceptible to make changes, or achieve new goals just because the year has changed. But what are somethings I keep wanting to do more of, but gets put on the back burner?
1. Knit a cowl hoodie for my kids (I bought the yarn and pattern in 2018) but I have never knitted beyond straight lines.
